Nippon Shokubai's biocompatible polymer is an excellent solution to give hydrophilicity and low-friction onto the surface with additional functions such as antithrombogenicity, inactivity against protein and bacteria. The material was developed by the deep scientific perspective on the different behavior of water molecule on the surface. It is designed so as to realize high content of "intermediate water" and low proportion of "non-freezing water", which contribute to its unique biocompatible properties. Possible applications of the material include coating agent for medical devices like catheters and guide wires.
Key Features
- Scientifically well-designed polymer that contains high content of intermediate water and low proportion of non-freezing water.
- Rich intermediate water in the polymer gives excellent biocompatible surface when applied as a coating with crosslinking agents.
- Coating film of the polymer forms a surface with excellent lubricity in wet conditions. Even less friction than PTFE surface.
- Laboratory evaluations indicate reduced platelet adhesion, reduced protein adsorption, and reduced microbial adhesion on coated surfaces.
Applications
Nippon Shokubai’s biocompatible polymer is suitable as a coating agent for medical devices such as blood-contacting catheters. The material is also suitable for coating of cell culture substrates, cell tissue scaffolding materials and diagnostic assay platforms.
